Rameswaram is revered as the holy place where Lord Rama worshipped Lord Shiva to absolve himself of the sin incurred after defeating the ten-headed Ravana during the Yuddha Kandam of the Ramayana. Devotees believe that bathing in the sacred sea at Rameswaram helps cleanse one’s sins and attain spiritual purification.
Similarly, Derisanamcope holds its own profound spiritual significance. It is believed to be the sacred land where Lord Rama consecrated Ragaveswaram after slaying Thadaka during the Bala Kandam, under the guidance and presence of Vishwamitra. The act of killing Thadaka, though done to protect righteousness, was considered a karmic burden, and Lord Rama is believed to have sought spiritual purification here.
To protect the sages and restore peace, Vishwamitra brought Lord Rama and Lakshmana to the South. Following the sage’s command, Lord Rama destroyed Thadaka, who had become a great obstacle to the penance and spiritual practices of the sages.
It is believed that this divine event led to the origin of the name Derisanamcope, making it a land deeply connected to the sacred history of the Ramayana.
Adding to the spiritual grandeur of this blessed land is Sreedhara Nangai, one of the revered Nanjil Nadu Nangais, who continues to shower blessings upon devotees. This spiritually rich and historically significant place is home to SreeMadam, standing as a beacon of devotion, heritage, and divine grace.
